SOCIAL/EMOTIONAL DEVELOPMENT
It is crucial that a student gains social and emotional development in class. The reason why is because if he is not socially or emotionally connected he will feel left out. A student that can not connect to the class on a emotionally or socially will not enjoy learning but that's why we are here to help with these activities below. Lev Vygostsky also suggested that human development results from interactions between individuals and society. Through this interaction, children learn gradually and continuously from parent and teachers although, this may vary from culture.
Students and teachers will have to present themselves to the classroom on the first day of school and provide everyone with details about who they are and what they like to do. We want to be able to know who they are so we can have a stronger connection. This will help create a secure attachment between the students and the teachers, like Mary Ainsworth evaluated in her strange situation procedure.
Here in this school we also embrace team building activities. Team building helps students interact socially between each other and also helps them develop higher confidence when meeting new people. This also leads to developing an emotional connection with their peers. Just like Erik Erikson, we believe that the ego identity develops through social interactions.
This activity is called keeping up with the class. This activity requires each and every student to write down one nice thing describing every one of his classmates. This helps students feel good about themselves and they will also feel good about others. This activity helps them emotionally and socially. This activity relates to Harry Harlows' love theory. It helped by showing student all the positive things that other children think of them. Harry Harlow believed love is vital in every child's life.
